Revelation 3:16...because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth (paraphrased). I took that to mean... straddling the fence...or trying to stay on Middle Ground. I knew folks that lived just like that. I was thinking of them when I wrote this song... of course I am now haunted by the many times I've stayed on the middle ground.

MIDDLE GROUND
words & music by Larry L Campbell c1999
A true story about two dreamers, I'll just call them Bod & Sue,
Every Friday night they cruise down the boulevard - and they would...
Split a six pack underneath the stars, while sitting on their hood.
They fell in love with each other, decided to start a family.
Signed a mortgage, bought some furniture and hung some drapes...and they, decided to live their lives just a little bit more respectfully.
So, they went to church every Sunday, wanted their kids to grow up right, but on the way to work each Monday they would lose the fight...they would,
come up short of what they knew God intended them to be.
Chorus:
Oh, that MIDDLE GROUND is... such a safe place,
living lukewarm and leaving no trace.
Oh, that middle ground is such a hopeless place to be.
Little Bobby starred in football, until he blew out his knew,
now Bob and Sue watch their son slowly drift away...and they,
don't know what to do or say, they just stand by helplessly.
And little Suzy she won't talk much, no one cared to find out why,
all the anger that's inside her might just explode,
so, Bob & Sue are too afraid to find out what they might ignite.
(Chorus)
Now the kids have gone to college, but they grew up so respectfully,
Bob works out in the woodshop making useless things, and he...
worries about Sue waiting by the phone just hoping it will ring.
And every evening on the back porch,
swinging on the back porch swing,
Same old questions about the weather, do you think it'll rain...and they,
never talk about the emptiness that robbed them of their dreams.
(Chorus)
